It's gonna rain...

You might have heard people talk about the 100 year flood...you know you are in a 100 year flood plain. That means that you have a chance of a flood every 100 years. What about a 500 year flood...well in Jackson Tennessee and Nashville Tennessee that is exactly what we had this past weekend. I am sure you have heard about it or seen pictures on the news..it was a terrible tragedy.

I could not help but think of Noah as we got over 13 inches of rain at my house and saw the damage done on our town...I could not even imagine if it had kept on raining for 40 days and nights. There is an old spiritual that says "It's gonna rain, it's gonna rain you better get ready and bear this in mind" what a great song. Thinking about flooding we think about the negative things...destruction. What about the positive... the cleansing...the newness that comes from washing away the current things.

I think about the scene from O'Brother where art thou...at the end when Delmar, Pete and Everette are about to be hung...and then the flood comes and saves them...what a great movie. There are things that are good about a flood.

Have you had any floods in your life? I have. Have you had any spiritual floods? I have and they were so hard during the initial flooding , but after the flood had gone what a wonderful blessing God gave me in the newness of the things He brought into my life.

Father I pray that you will always be gentle with us and bring the floods when you must but keep us safe to see the beauty that the newness a flood of Your Spirit can bring in our lives.
