Are you going to Heaven?

I love that question. As a child I was told that was the question you should ask yourself. Even now if you ask people they will often say "I hope so" or "Lord willing". Well the truth is the Lord is willing and hope has nothing to do with it. John in his gospel says that the things he writes are so you will know....that's always interested me. Knowing. I know people who think they know a lot...then there are people who claim not to know anything...John says we can know. I like knowing.

I also love the different ideas that people have about heaven. Some think it is up in the sky somewhere, or that we will all be floating in the skies, better yet that we will be some spirit floating about. But my favorite is that people think it's going to be one eternal church service. If that's the case which church service will it be...they all seem pretty different to me.

I love to read the book and really see what God has in store for us. To read about God restoring the earth and bringing the new Jerusalem down to earth and that we will have our perfect resurrected bodies here. It really make me want to work with God to help restore this creation that he made and called it good... until we messed it up.

I hope you will peal back the layers of scripture and really see what God has for us. In one of his latest works N.T.Wright does a great job of doing this. It is a great read. The title of the book is "Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church" It is an amazing book.

Father I pray that you will heal us from our own understanding of your word and show us your understanding...

Peace.
