Blue Parakeet...

Have you ever read one of those books and thought "Man I wish I had read this years ago..." Scot McKnight's Blue Parakeet was that way for me. This is one of the greatest books about challenging you to rethink how you read the bible. It has really changed the way that I see and search the word of God. I have always been amazed at how different people can read the same verse of the bible and come away with polar opposite interpretations. McKnight's book answers a lot of those questions. People tend to read the bible one of several ways and with in each of those ways there are different ways they begin to interpret the bible.

Some read the bible as "rule book", or a bunch of laws to be obeyed. Others read it as a love letter from God, while others read it through tradition, and others read it as narrative or story. No matter which way you read it we just need to understand that the way we read it will be the way that we interpret it. I will not spoil it for you just in case you want to get the book and read it.

I am thankful to have had the chance to read a book that has blessed me. I had an opportunity to meet Scot at Woodmont Hills church of Christ in Nashville a couple of years ago, and had a wonderful time doing that. McKnight has also written a book called the Jesus creed that is certainly worth the read as well.

I pray that God will allow us all to realize that His ways are not our ways and His thoughts are not our thoughts...we need to understand that we do not have God "figured out"...he is to awesome for that...and would you really serve a God that you knew everything that he did??

Peace.

I read and re-read The Jesus Creed a couple of years ago. I'll be interested to see if this book is as good. Thanks for the heads up.
