It's time. It's time that we finally come to the confession booth and say what we need to say. Come on now we ALL need to go. And our confession should be.." Lord we are so sorry that we have messed church up." It's time to admit it, we have taken an idea of community and turned it into a mess of institution.
You may think this is only a "rant" but I have come to believe that we have really messed this all up. Church, a community of believers, being Jesus to the community around them and sharing what God has given them with others that don't have it. Church, a community of Christ followers that are blessed to be a blessing to the entire world. Yet we have messed up even the community part.
I don't see church as a community, it is more a gathering of people who confess the "TYPE" of community they are..their Brand if you will. We focus on the worship rules, we are in endless discussions on why the church office does not run the way we think it should, we don't like the message on the answering machine or that we even get the answering machine. Community is about Jesus. Period.
We function, if we function at all, based on what we do during a worship gathering instead of what we have done prior to the gathering...you know the other 6 days of the week.
I really want us to rethink what we are doing and what it looks like to those who really need our help and the message we have. I want us to look at why we are doing what we are doing. I am ready. If you are angry, then maybe you are ready to. If you don't see a problem...well that speaks for itself.
It's time...really it is. We just need to admit it.
