Why is that important??

Have you ever wondered why we do some of the things we do. No I don't mean those crazy things that make us wonder about our judgement. I mean the things that become habit, the things that we do almost in an unconscious state, I mean the things that are rituals, I mean how we do church.

In my journey, I am at a place of questioning. I am wondering why we put all of our energy into our worship service or gathering.(I really don't like the word service, it reminds me of a service station where we go to get things done for us...that's another post for another time)WE spend so much energy and time for something that really has minimal effect on the hurting people of this world.

I believe that there are great reasons to have the weekly gathering, but it just seems that it is the most important thing we focus on. I am beginning to think that the gathering should be more like a witnessing time or reporting time on what God has done through us during the week, to be encouraged and to build each other up. I believe it should be a time to thank God for his provision during the week and a time to ask Him to show us where he wants us to be working in the up coming week.

But, it seems to me that we have become comfortable with the gathering together. And with the gathering having very little effect on the hurting or hungry of the world. Yet we continue to say that this is a way to bring others to Christ..When is the last time we invited someone to go with us to the soup kitchen rather than to a church service. I get a feeling that people need to see that Jesus is working in us to serve people, the same way Jesus did. Not simply do church the way the religious leaders of the day did...what do you think?

Peace.
